Books, Seminars, and Free Resources for Growing Christians

Other Resources

For understanding the Book of Daniel
Beth Moore: Daniel: Lives of Integrity, Words of Prophecy Nashville: LifeWay Church Resources, 2006.
Beth’s workbook targets women, but is helpful for everyone. The workbook is designed to go along with her video series on Daniel, which is available at www.lifeway.com.

David Jeremiah: The Handwriting on the Wall Dallas, TX: Word Publishing, 1992.
The Handwriting on the Wall reflects Dr. Jeremiah’s (pastor of Shadow Mountain Church in San Diego) unique preaching style and is easy to read. Available at http://www.ivpress.com.

Joyce Baldwin: Daniel: An Introduction and Commentary Downers Grove, IL: Inter-Varsity Press.
Dr. Baldwin’s (Trinity College, Bristol, England) commentary is part of the Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries series and reflects a good degree of scholarship, yet is still short enough for non-academics to read and understand. Available at http://www.tyndale.com.

For understanding the End Times
Timothy Weber: The Future Explored Wheaton, IL:Victor Books.
The Future Explored is a simple explanation of the end times, and may be out of print. But Dr. Weber (who taught at Denver Seminary) has done such a good job of making the complicated simple, that if it is still available, it’s worth the read for those just beginning on this topic. Try http://www.bestwebbuys.com/Victor_Books-mcid_11565361.html?isrc=b-authorsearch.

Robert Gundry: The Church and The Tribulation: A Biblical Examination of Posttribulationism Grand Rapids: Zondervan Publishing House.
Dr. Gundry (Westmont College) represents a post-tribulation rapture view of the end times, a view that is gaining popularity around the world, but not heard of as much is most evangelical churches. For those never exposed to postribulationism, it’s well worth the read: http://www.zondervan.com.

George Eldon Ladd: The Last Things Grand Rapids: Eerdmans Publishing Company.
Dr. Ladd did seminal thinking, highly influencing the faculty of Fuller Seminary.
Eerdmans’ website is http://www.eerdmans.com.

For Further Studies in Apologetics
Ken Boa & Larry Moody: I’m Glad You Asked, Colo. Springs: ChariotVictor Books.
Ken and Larry answer 12 great questions in a logical, compelling way: http://www.alibris.com/search/books/author/Chariot%20Victor%20Publishing.

R.C. Sproul: Reason to Believe: A Response to Common Objections to Christianity Grand Rapids: Zondervan.
R.C. has written several helpful volumes on apologetics. This one answers 8 questions in a simple format. Dr. Sproul’s ministry is called, “Ligonier’s.” You can access it at http://www.ligonier.org.

Josh McDowell: A Ready Defense: The Best of Josh McDowell Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
osh is one of the great apologists of the century. The volume covers almost everything he’s ever written. It’s a reference everyone should own. Josh’s official website is http://www.josh.org. (Who else can get recognized by just their first name?)

Lee Strobel: The Case for Faith: A Journalist Investigates the Toughest Objections to Christianity Grand Rapids, Zondervan.
Lee is a former atheist, with a background in law and journalism. He answers questions in a compelling way: by interviewing experts and letting them speak in their areas of expertise. You can buy all Lee’s books on Amazon, and read his bio at LeeStrobel.com.

C.S. Lewis: C. S. Lewis Signature Classics: Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, A Grief Observed, The Problem of Pain, Miracles, and The Great Divorce San Francisco: HarperCollins.
C.S. Lewis was one of the greatest minds of the 20th century. This is a classic work, though it requires concentration to follow.

Philip Yancey: Where is God When It Hurts? and Disappointment With God Both = Grand Rapids: Zondervan
Phil Yancy is one of my favorite authors. You ought to read everything he writes! These two books use compassion and reasoning to help heal the hurt of pain in one’s life.
Yancey’s books can be purchased from Amazon.

James Dobson: When God Doesn’t Make Sense Wheaton: Tyndale House
Dobson is known for his advice on the family, but his advice about dealing with the problem of pain is every bit as good. You can reach his whole organization at
http://www.family.org.
