Hal lives in Vista, California with his wife and two children.
Hal was born in Santa Barbara, California. He received Christ on January 20, 1971, on the Ventura Freeway while riding home with his swim team coach.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wheaton College, Master of Divinity degree from Denver Seminary and has received his DMin from Fuller Seminary.
In Sept., 1992, he and his wife Lori planted New Song Community Church, a growing church in Oceanside, CA. New Song has grown to a weekly attendance of 1000 and has daughtered six congregations, four English speaking and two Spanish speaking. In addition, four Christian ministries have been birthed through New Song: Outreach Inc., Dynamic Church Planting International, Community Church Builders, and Ministry Discounts. Since inception, New Song has led 5000 to Christ, 784 of them in 2007.
Hal has authored three books:
- The God Questions: Exploring Life’s Great Questions about God (co-authored with Dan Grider and written as a 40-Day Campaign experience) is currently helping churches across the nation hold community-reaching campaigns that build faith and boost evangelism.
- Future History: Understanding the book of Daniel and End Times Prophecy Is a daily devotional/walk through the book of Daniel, (including small group questions and church-wide campaign options) that introduces readers to God’s revealed plans for The End Times, along with experiencing the famous stories of Daniel and his companions in the palace of the king, the lion’s den, fiery furnace, and with the handwriting on the wall and .
- Jonah: Responding to God in All the Right Ways is a 20 day devotional and Church Campaign guide, enabling readers to grasp and respond to the greatness and grace of God.
Hal’s passion is to see lost people come to know Christ and grow in Him. Towards that end, he and New Song have committed themselves not only to reaching the unchurched in their area, but to motivate, train, and resource as many church planters and churches as possible to become evangelistically driven and effective. Hal serves as a trainer for Dynamic Church Planting International and Walk Thru the Bible.
